Settling In

After three weeks of living in Boston we are finally starting to get settled in. Our home is gradually filling with furniture, the empty spaces are becoming useful working spaces, and our kitchen pantry is starting to fill with all of the essentials couldn’t squeeze into the back of our Kia.

Thanks to the iPhone SAP gave me for work, we no longer spend fifteen minutes studying the map and taking notes before we head out to get lost on our way to an unfamiliar destination.

Shannon had a job interview today at an assisted living home for a position serving food and visiting with the guests, a natural fit for her, and she tells me she is expecting the offer today or tomorrow.

We found a church that we feel comfortable becoming a part of. Countryside Bible Church is in Lexington, about 7 minutes from home. The pastor Jack Fish and his wife Amy had us over for dinner last Saturday and they helped us feel welcomed into the community. It is a big relief finding a church so quickly. Last summer when we lived in Novato, CA it took 7 attempts before we settled on a church, and we really did just settle so that we could stop looking.

Work is flexible for me. Monday through Wednesday I work for an hour in the morning between 4:30 and 5:30 AM, and then go into the office by 7 and leave around 3 so that we have time to go buy furniture, explore something, or just make dinner together. Thursday and Friday I have been able to work from home, giving Shannon and I extra time together which we really appreciate before we have to spend the month apart in August.

Last Thursday we adventured down to the Robbins library in Arlington, and it is the most beautiful library I have ever been in. The building is very old, with a large rotunda at the center. It is a part of a network of Libraries called the Minuteman System, giving us access to almost any title we could hope for. They have prints of artwork available for check out for six weeks, cd’s, DVDs, and periodicals including the Harvard Business Review which you can check out for a week at a time.
